 food allergen

Under the FASTER Act (Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education and Research Act) of 2021, sesame is the ninth major food allergen being added to the list of major food allergens. Labeling disclosures will be mandatory effective January 1, 2023.

It is required by law that dietary supplement manufacturers clearly list if any of the identified common food allergens (wheat, milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, crustacean shellfish, fish) are present in the product. These eight foods account for 90% of the food allergies affecting Americans.

Vitamer Labs offers a consumer friendly “Contains No” statement on all our product labels to make this easy for your customer, with the full statement reading:

“Contains No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives; no wheat, gluten, milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, crustacean shellfish or fish.”

You may have noticed that we have started to add sesame to our “Contains No” section on our labels. This project is underway and by January 1, 2023, all our labels will have a statement that looks like this:

“Contains No artificial colors, flavors or preservatives; no wheat, gluten, milk, eggs, peanuts, sesame, tree nuts, soy, crustacean shellfish or fish.”

The “Contains No” list outlines the top concerns customers have today, and clearly states the absence of allergens. Of course, items on the list will be removed when applicable for a given product (e.g., milk will be removed from the list if it is a whey product).
