Nutrition Facts:

From Acidophilus to Lecithin, our speciality line includes traditional formulas and cutting edge nutraceuticals. These speciality products are aimed at everything from digestive health to memory function. A detailed guide to our speciality products is provided below:

Digestive Health
To maintain optimal digestive health it is essential to receive an adequate supply of beneficial bacteria. Beneficial bacteria help protect the body against harmful or bad bacteria which is often responsible for stomach upset and food-born illnesses. Many factors can affect the amount of good bacteria present in the body, such as illness and aging, which is why good bacteria is a great addition to the daily diet.

Probiotics (meaning "life") refers to friendly or good bacteria, such as Lactobacillus acidophilus are live microbial supplements that improve flora in the intestinal tract. Our probiotic supplements are:

  • Liquid Acidophilus (VL714)
  • Freeze Dried Acidophilus (VL71S)

Prebiotics are substances that selectively promote and feed the growth of beneficial bacteria.

  • Inulin-FOS Complex (VL146) - Acidophilus and Inulin-FOS Complex are great products to promote together for digestive tract health.

Fiber is deficient in the diets of most Americans due to frequent consumption of over-processed foods, stripped of their natural fiber content. The recommended intake of fiber for the general public is from 20-40 grams of fiber per day for optimal intestinal health. Short-term inadequate fiber intake can cause stomach discomfort, such as constipation, and over time it can lead to more serious and uncomfortable complications like diverticulosis, causing unwanted pain and discomfort.

  • Super Fiber Tabs (VL139) provide both soluble and insoluble fiber - can be sold along with the amino acid L-Glutamine (VL737 & VL742) which also assists in maintaining digestive tract health.

Metabolism and Weight
Nutritional supplements aimed at supporting healthy weight management often contain unsafe ingredients like the Chinese herb Ma Huang (ephedra) or caffeine to further enhance stimulatory effects, often creating dangerous and life-threatening side effects. Rare to the industry, we only use safe and natural ingredients in our metabolism support products.

Complete Citrimax™ (VL192) -- a natural way to promote a healthy metabolism; contains no stimulants like other products on the market.

KVLB Kelp * Vinegar * Lecithi * B6 (VL912) -- contains nutrients to help support thyroid function, water balance and fat utilization.

NOTE: On the horizon ... Look for new, all-natural metabolism support products from Vitamer!

  1. Since acidophilus products lose their potency at such a fast rate, how do I know there are actually live cultures left by the end of the expiration date?

With most acidophilus products on the market there is no guarantee of the amount of lactobacillus left by the end of the expiration date because most only list the amount at time of manufacture. Our Acidophilus (VL714, VL71S) list both the amount at time of manufacture and the amount that is guaranteed by the end of the expiration date!

  2. Does your acidophilus products need to be refrigerated?

Liquid Acidophilus (VL714) contains Lactobacillus acidophilus and skim milk. The "mother culture" (the initial bacteria) is a purified human strain, LA-I. It is grown on a nonfat milk powder base in a temperature, pH and time-controlled environment to ensure optimal growth. Liquid Acidophilus: Minimum 500 million guaranteed organisms, per gram, at inception.

1 Tablespoon = 15 grams
7.5 billion cells per Tablespoon
Estimated monthly percent decline in viability is:

refrigerated: 20-25% per month
room temperature (72°F): 30-50% per month

Freeze-Dried Acidophilus (VL71S), in a convenient capsule form, has a better stability than liquid. Acidophilus Caps: Minimum 500 million guaranteed organisms per capsule at inception.
Estimated monthly percent decline in viability is:

refrigerated: 2-3% per month
room temperature (72°F): 3-6% per month

Both of our acidophilus products are time and temperature dependent. For example, if the product sits at room temperature for a considerably long time (2 weeks to 1 month), the viability of the cells decline. Since refrigeration seems to slow down this inevitable decline in potency, we highly recommend refrigerating the product upon receipt. It is important to note that the listed expiration date is based on the fact that the product is not refrigerated when shipped. Please note that our acidophilus is in compliance with the NNFA ProBiotic Labeling Standard.

  3. What are phosphatides and why is the content different in Lecithin Capsules (VL140) and Soy Lecithin Granules (VL152)?

The term "lecithin" is the commercial or popular name for a mixture of naturally occurring compounds called phosphatides or phospholipids. The principle components of this natural mixture are phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylinositol. Phospholipids are a natural constituent of cells in the human body. They have roles in supporting a healthy nervous system and are found in the myelin sheath, which is a fatty protective covering for the nerves. The average diet contains about 5 to 10 grams of lecithin and about 400 to 900 mg of choline daily. Currently, there is no RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance). However, choline, a constituent of lecithin, is considered an essential nutrient.

Areas of research include evaluating lecithin's role in memory function and lecithin as a support factor for weight management. Whether lecithin supplements will contribute to reducing serum cholesterol is still controversial. Lecithin is found in egg yolks, legumes, liver, nuts, whole wheat, vegetable oils, and soybeans. It is also a source of polyunsaturated fat.

  4. What is Inulin-FOS and is it natural or synthetic?
Inulin is a naturally occurring substance found in over 36,000 plants and vegetables. FOS is a subgroup of inulin, also called fructo-oligosaccharides, which is a form of dietary fiber that provides fuel for good bacteria. Many Inulin supplements on the market are derived synthetically, but ours is derived naturally from chicory root, providing a more full-spectrum formula.

  5. How does the isoflavone content in the NovaSoy® Soy Isoflavones compare to the amount found in soy foods.

The isoflavone content found in the NovaSoy® soy isoflavones is comparable to what a person would receive naturally if consuming a diet that included soy foods. See chart below:

Isoflavone Content of Various Foods
(Mean value: units = mg/lOO 9 or 3.5 ounces edible portion)

*USDA - Iowa State University Isoflavones Database - 1999

The NNFA (National Nutritional Foods Association) Standard Committee has adopted the Food Chemicals Codex III Description and Specifications as an acceptable standard for lecithin (p. 166 F.C.C. III) and the following is recommended:

DRY or OIL FREE LECITHIN should contain minimum 90% phosphatides.
LIQUID and/or ENCAPSULATED LECITHIN should contain minimum 50% phosphatides.

As you can see, our two products meet these recommendations.

1) ALL NATURAL SOY LECITHIN GRANULES (Nutty Flavor) 97-99% Phosphatides
2) LECITHIN 1200 mg SOYA LECITHIN CAPSULES 60% Phosphatides

The soy lecithin granules are a premium deoiled soybean lecithin with no additives, fillers, or flow agents. It is characterized by its high phospholipid concentration, low residual oil content, and superior aroma and flavor profile. The % phosphatides are higher in the granules because it is more concentrated from being dried and deoiled. It takes approximately 10 lecithin capsules to equal 1 tablespoon of the lecithin granules based on the following:

1 tablespoon of qranules 1 lecithin capsule
1763 mg phosphatidylcholine 180 mg phosphatidylcholine
1050 mg phosphatidylinositol 102 mg phosphatidylinositol
1500 mg phosphatidylethanolamine 144 mg phosphatidylethanolamine

Now you may ask why anyone would want to take the capsules if the granules are more potent? Persona! preference! A person may select a desi red potency based on dietary habits as well as convenience. Some find it easier to carry capsules around and take them throughout the day, and some mayor may not like the taste or feel of the granules in the mouth. There are many reasons people may choose one over the other, but if the stores have the facts, they will be better able to help the consumer choose a product that will best suit their needs.

  6. Why do you recommend taking the Super Fiber Tabs (VL139) 30 minutes before meals?
It helps to curb the appetite when dieting. For daily fiber needs, it can be taken at any time of the day.
