MULTIPLE VITAMINS & MINERALS

Nutrition Facts:

More important in today's times than ever before, taking a daily multivitamin is essential. Lower nutrient content in soil, fast food meals and processed convenience foods are just a few offenders topping the list. Most people do not eat the minimum number of fresh fruits and vegetables to get the necessary nutrition for a healthy body.

Multivitamin formulas vary widely. One containing no artificial colors, preservatives, or undesirable additives should be a primary consideration. Why take unnatural chemicals if you don't have to?

When choosing a multi, the following questions can help determine the most appropriate product.

  • Do you prefer a tablet or a capsule?
  • Do you prefer a once daily formula?
  • Do you mind taking several capsules/tablets per day?
  • Do you have difficulty swallowing?
  • Do you prefer to mix it in a liquid?
  • What type of potency (low, moderate, or high)?
  • Are you the only one taking the formula?
  • Are you looking for a high amount of a specific nutrient?
  • Are you avoiding any specific nutrients?

Once these questions are addressed, the choice will generally be narrowed down to one or two formulas, and the best multivitamin for you can be chosen without confusion. Using our "Multiple Comparison Chart" can also expedite the process. Your customers will appreciate how quickly a formula can be chosen, given the proper assistance. Our wide variety of potency, dosages, delivery systems and formulas make it possible to find a multivitamin supplement for just about everyone.

A Note About Iron-Free Multis ...

Iron-free multis are generally recommended for men and post-menopausal women. Iron is particularly important for premenopausal women and growing children, but once boys have matured (late teens or early twenties) and after women stop menstruating, iron is no longer as essential. In fact, research has demonstrated that increased iron stores in these populations can increase the risk of heart disease. We offer the following iron-free formulas:

  • Iron Free Multi Caps (VL501)
  • Iron Free Super One Daily (VL504)
  • Phytonutrient Based Iron Free Multi (VL516)

Multivitamin Marketing Opportunities:

  • A staple for all consumers
  • The basis for any supplemental nutrition program
  • Variety of delivery, sizes and formulas appealing to all populations
  • Great value!
  • Many are vegetarian
  • Ultimate OneTM (VL508) and Basic Multi (VL514) are among the top ten best sellers
  • Merchandise with additional Vitamin C, antioxidants, and calcium

  1. Are the multiples gluten-free?

Yes. For individuals who have celiac sprue also known as celiac disease, non-tropical sprue, adult celiac disease or gluten-sensitive enteropathy, avoiding gluten containing products is essential. The disease manifests as a characteristic lesion of the small intestinal mucosa with actual or potential intestinal malabsorption of virtually all nutrients. Following withdrawal of gluten from the diet, prompt clinical improvement is seen.

A gluten-free diet eliminates wheat, rye, barley and oats. Buckwheat and millet are also excluded because of lack of reliable information about their gluten content. Individuals with celiac sprue should work with a registered dietitian to develop an appropriate nutritionally adequate eating plan.

  2. Is there a multiple without iron?

For consumers looking for an iron-free multiple, we have three products from which to choose:
Iron Free Multi Caps (VL501)
A two per day moderate potency formula in a base of rice bran. Contains 100% Natural Beta- Carotene plus mixed carotenoids for increased antioxidant protection, plus plant enzymes to support digestion. Also includes 100 IU vitamin E, 125 mg vitamin C, 150 mg calcium and important trace minerals.

Iron Free Super One Daily (VL504)
A convenient one tablet per day moderate potency supplement. It is a well-balanced, yeast free and vegetarian formula.

Phytonutrient Based Iron Free Multi (VL516)
This vegetarian formula contains a unique blend of phytonutrients that support absorption and utilization of nutrients and key factors naturally found in food. The phytonutrient base (2100 mg per 4 tablets) includes: brown rice, bran, greens (barley grass, chlorella, spirulina), bee pollen, bioflavonoids, cruciferous vegetables, carrot, parsley, sea vegetables, fruit pectin, apple, prune, berry, grape, safflower, clove, ginger and fennel.

  3. Why do some customers request iron-free products?

Recent studies indicate that increased accumulation of iron in the body may be harmful to the arteries & heart. Menstruation in premenopausal women helps keep iron stores lower. This, according to the iron hypothesis, may account for a very low rate of coronary heart disease (CHD) in premenopausal women. Without the frequent blood loss, men and postmenopausal women with higher iron stores may be at risk for CHD. The body releases iron due to increased stores, causing free radical damage to cells, arteries and organs. Studies indicate that men's iron stores increase geometrically after age 20 and that the rate of CHD among men begins to increase in their 30s. On the other hand, women's iron stores rise very little until their late 40s and rarely develop CHD until their 50s, some time after menopause. Therefore, experts recommend that men and postmenopausal women take iron-free supplements to avoid contributing to excessive iron storage levels unless, of course, additional iron is advised by a health care professional.

  4. Where does the vitamin D source, cholecalciferol, come from?

Cholecalciferol is derived from oil extracted from sheep wool. This is considered a vegetarian source (the animal is not harmed, just sheared), but not vegan. Thus, our multiples listed as "vegetarian" are not considered vegan.

Note: A complete list of our products that are considered vegan is available through our Customer Service department. It can also be found in the "Mini Lines" category of our updated Product Catalog inserts.

  5. In the Ultimate Capsule TM (VL520), what is the source of the 2 mg of chlorophyll?

The source of the chlorophyll is alfalfa.
