HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR GINSENG?

I am often asked about the differences in use between the "red" and the "white" varieties of Panax ginseng. Many customers are not even sure if Vitamer's "Chinese Ginseng" (VL#982) is red or white. Although both red and white roots are the same botanical material, they are used differently.

The Asian White ginseng is most commonly used for its effect as a general tonic and adaptogen, imparting resistance to a large range of physical, chemical and biological stresses. It may also facilitate recovery after illness, chronic ailments, or surgery.

The Asian Red ginseng has more stimulating effects and acts as an endocrine system and sexual tonic, specifically affecting male hormone (testosterone) production. Therefore, it is not suggested for use by women for long periods of time. The White variety of Asian ginseng, in contrast, can be used more long-term by both men and women.

Our raw material supplier uses only the highest quality whole white Chinese ginseng root. Red Chinese ginseng root is simply the white root that has undergone a steaming process.

Why is the Flax seed oil organically grown, but the EPO and Borage are not?

Since Borage (VL#133) and Evening Primrose (VL#132) do not compete well with weeds, suppliers cannot grow them organically. Our supplier actually studied and grew organic crops, however the fatty acid composition was inadequate.

Each and every lot of flax seed (VL#131) is thoroughly cleaned and tested to guarantee potential contaminants are well below detection limits. Flax can be grown organically since it is a strong and hearty crop, competing much better against weeds.
