The
Water Soluble Vitamin Dilemma
Water
soluble vitamins, such as vitamin C and the B-complex,
must be supplied throughout the day, every day, because
they are not significantly stored in the body. When
nutrient-rich foods are consumed, vitamins are gradually
released as the food is digested. In many situations,
however, higher potencies than those found in foods
are required. Unfortunately, when standard tablet forms
of high potency water soluble vitamins are ingested,
nutrients are released all at once for absorption. The
body utilizes what it can at that time, and the expensive
remainder is excreted.
The
Prolonged Release Advantage
Certain
supplements can be made more efficient by making them
"prolonged release". These specially made
formulas are designed to release nutrients slowly over
time. This allows your body to receive maximum benefit
from your supplement because small amounts at a time
are absorbed and utilized, which minimizes losses through
excretion. This gives you the advantages of taking many
tiny doses throughout the day with the convenience of
taking one large dose. Prolonged release results in
more effective, more economical water soluble supplements.
Prolonged
release tablets consist of a special "matrix"
(composed of natural cellulose and vegetable stearates)
in which the nutrients are embedded. As the tablet goes
through the digestive process, the nutrients are slowly
released from the matrix usually over a 3 to 6 hour
period. Prolonged release formulas mimic the way your
body utilizes water soluble nutrients from food (slowly
releasing nutrients over several hours) making them
an efficient, economic way to supplement your diet.
